Battling E. coli related mortality with Jefo P(OA+EO)

Concord Colony is a large turkey producer in Manitoba that raises about 150,000 birds a year. It has a unique feed system setup that allows for feed switch on any day as opposed to the conventional system that waits for bin inventory depletion. Larry Kleinsasser has been dedicated to turkey farming, as the chief farm manager, for decades.

From the experience at Concord Colony, Jefo Protected Organic Acids + Essential Oils showed excellent efficacy in controlling E. coli related mortality.
 

For some time, the farm was experiencing E. coli challenges resulting in high mortality rates. Larry Kleinsasser had tried different approaches with no success until implementing Jefo P(OA+EO).

In Week 7, from Monday to Friday, he lost from 14 to 29 birds per day in a 14,000 bird flock. On the Saturday, he started adding Jefo P(OA+EO) in the feed. The next day, only 3 birds died. The low mortality was maintained until the following Saturday (Week 8) when, once again, 12 birds died. After seeing the number of dead birds increase again, Larry realized that on the Friday of Week 8, when they switched to a new formula, Jefo P(OA+EO) was not added to the feed.

It only took one day to see a drop in the number of dead birds, and only one day for the number to increase again. Jefo P(OA+EO) was added back that same day, Saturday of Week 8. The next day, only 1 bird was reported dead, and low mortality was reported for the rest of the flock.

When comparing the average of dead birds 6 days before and after Jefo P(OA+EO) supplementation, mortality was reduced by 71% (18.3 vs. 5.2).

Larry has used Jefo P(OA+EO) in other flocks obtaining good results to control mortality.
