BELFEED® obtains a European authorisation for gestating sows
A major step forward for swine nutrition in Europe
JEFO is pleased to announce the extension of BELFEED®'s European authorization for use in gestating sows, effective since March 11, 2026. This new approval reinforces BELFEED®'s position as a reference xylanase for pig and poultry for optimising the energy recovery of feed.
A concrete response to the nutritional challenges of gestation
The gestation phase is a key period during which the nutritional needs of sows change significantly, especially at the end of gestation, with the increase in energy requirements related to fetal growth and mammary development. In this context, the formulation of high-fiber feeds is common, but it can limit digestibility and feed efficiency.
Thanks to its bacterial endoxylanase activity, BELFEED® acts directly on the arabinoxylans present in plant raw materials. Its mode of action allows:
- to improve the digestibility of rations rich in fibre,
- to optimize the energy recovery of the feed,
- to support the digestive comfort of sows.
Fibre, a key nutrient for the sow
They help improve digestive comfort, regulate transit and promote better intestinal health, especially in gestating sows. By increasing the feeling of satiety, fibre also helps to reduce stress and stereotypical behaviours related to food restriction. Their fermentation by the flora of the digestive tract at the level of the colon ensures a favourable microbial equilibrium for periods of stress such as giving birth.
The use of xylanase makes it possible to accompany and optimize the beneficial effects of fiber in the sow's diet. By degrading arabinoxylans from plant walls, this enzyme improves the fermentability of fibres and their recovery by the gut microbiota.
A unique, simple and versatile solution
With this new authorisation, BELFEED® becomes the only single-dose xylanase covering all life stages in pigs, including gestating sows, as well as all poultry species. This specificity offers formulators and nutritionists a solution:
- simple to integrate into food programs,
- reliable regardless of the raw materials used,
- effective in a variety of nutritional contexts.
BELFEED®, at the service of performance and sustainability
This extension of use in Europe confirms JEFO's commitment to offering innovative, scientifically validated solutions adapted to the current challenges of animal feed.
